Who are we?

Who are we?

Malaika Africa is an NGO (non-governmental organization) working in Arumeru - a region of Tanzania where the Maasai live. Our on-site project center includes a children's home with a small one office and washrooms. The project leaders Florida and Mama Sarah live there together with 26 orphans who have found a new home there.

In addition to caring for these children, the project's five staff members visit another 70 children a week, who have been placed with foster families to check that the children are doing well.

Another integral part of the work of the project is the education and education work in various areas, such as hygiene and health, HIV / AIDS and sensitization for female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. Up to now, this work can only be implemented as part of family visits, but due to the great interest in the entire project population, it should be offered in order to improve the living and health conditions in the project area.

Children are eyes that see what we are already blind to.
Children are ears that hear what we are already deaf for.
Children are souls who feel what we are already dull for.
Children are mirrors that show what we like to hide.

Our team

Four women with the desire of generating a change in childrens life.

When I lived in Tanzania for a few months in 2013, I met Florida, the founder and leader of the project. She introduced me to her work in the center and I got to know the children who live in the orphanage belonging to the project. Since this meeting, we share a common passion for the project and have developed a close collaboration over the past five years. Last year, the project was able to open another center at a second location and carry out the project activities in the Arumeru region as well. I was able to support the management team of the project in the planning and construction of the new center and I am actively involved in the project developments through project visits and joint planning meetings and work together with the team of local employees on the implementation of the goals and visions of the project.

Since I was little I wanted to be able to help people in need, I questioned myself many things and at the same time I constantly repeteated to myself "we all have the right to a dignified life, full of light and joy". In 2012 I met Laura, and we agreed on our ideals of founding an organization, without even knowing what we wanted to focus on, the idea remained in the air. The following year Laura went to Tanzania, and told me about her experience in Africa, the work and the tireless desire of the leaders of Casa Hogar to help the children of that community, her approach to the children made me want to get involved too, to help them improve their life quality, to take a smile out of each and everyone of them, to remind them that each one of them counts. This is how our idea and approach to orphaned children in the Arumeru region was born.
